For some reason in the past few months, i can't shift too quickly into 2nd gear.... if i push it into gear before it "lets" me.... the gear grinds for a split second, the same thing occurs from 3rd-4th-5th to 2nd, the only time it wont grind is when the RPMs are close to where 2nd would be running at.... any comments... oh and by the way, i changed my tranmission fluid and put in a friction modifier/treatment of sorts... i would greatly appreciate any help or comments about this.. thanx

sounds like synchros on their way out... you might be able to prolong your tranny's life by going back to regular NON-synthetic ATF and FM, and start saving for a rebuild.
oh, and what "sorts" of fluid did you use?

I'm sure when you changed your tranny fluid you didn't forget to bleed the clutch I had exactly the same problems because of that. T.

I had those problems with my transmission and it was bad syncro's. ATF+3 and FM is the best transmission fluid for worn MTX75's....

PA 3L, How hard is it to change out the syncro's? Do you have to pull the trans or can it be done with it in the car? Where to buy syncros? As you can tell I have the same problem with 3rd gear, it's not real bad but no more shifting fast into 3rd gear. Off topic, when will you be at Cecil county raceway next?

Synchros are internal to the transaxle. The transaxle has to be completely removed and disassembled, the the gears, blocker rings and synchros removed from the input and output shafts. The parts must be acquired from Ford. This is NOT an easy job. Pulling the transaxle alone is not for the faint of heart.
I suggest you take it to a professional.
