While not optimally placed in the doors, the stock locations are much better than having a quasi center channel, especially without any sort of DSP to add the center channel effects correctly. If you are happy with the location, great. But I would highly recommend that noone else do this.

Are you referring to the kicks. Or another post. Because As I have come to learn in my eight years of designing and building sound systems. You midrange and tweets need to be as far away from the ear as possible to create the correct soundstage. I do have custom built laser jigs for correct positioning of the tweeter cup. But is not necessary to achieve a very good sound.

if you have really good tweeters like myself, you can put them under the headunit. Makes for a VERY EASY install, i can help you with a how-to. It is kinda like adding a center channel speaker. One thing i dont like about our cars is the fact that the speakers are on the doors (on our sides) and nothing is coming from the front or back. So this was a great addition. Then just wire them to the front speakers.

edit: btw my tweeters are the pioneer 3/4" silk dome tweeters. 50-75 bucks i think they were. Very good tweeters. Like 90w peak power.

I believe he is talking about this post.

I was referring to the post regarding putting tweets in the center console. Kick panels are the way to go if you don't have time alignment features. The A-pillar idea would be preferred by most non-competitors, IMO. The sail panel idea would accomplish similar goals (raising the sound stage)

If you don't have the time or money to spend on kickpanels, I can show you another alternative... I mounted mine on the doors here:

They are angle mounted, and are as close to being in a kickpanel location without actually building one. Soundstage is decent, and surprisingly high considering the tweeter location. Just be careful not to kick them off when getting in and out of the car...

I'm planning on doing the same thing as J-Lab. Seems like a solid point. Haven't decided on which tweeters yet though. Probably be using a/d/s 3 Series mid unit and either the LPG 26 tweeter or a Audax TM025. Would allow extremely picky types various shim installations to get the right angle then cover the shims.

Or at least that's my plan.
