I don't remember how thick they are. That was a little while ago.

Paul, that's why I used an open-ended wrench on the hex of the cam also.

I ordered the TDC slot holder tool thing from www.zxtuner.com cause I didn't want to bother with making one. I bought 4 torx sockets a while back for $20 but they only go up to t-50 so I gotta start looking, no checkers, kragens, shuck here. thanks darrel for info on holding the cam.

When I opened my box, I was like "I paid $20 for this?!?" but it is needed, so... I used an open ended wrench instead of a cam locking tool to keep the cam gear from turning. Probably not the recomended way, but it worked. You just need to be sure that on of the spokes in the gear is near the head. (I know I have been working on it for a couple of weeks, but I am almost done, promise! Maybe I should spend less time lurking here and more time on my car )

That's why I love this place - almost everyone spells my name right; a rare ocurrence in the real world

Hey,

Sorry it took me a bit to get back. For the cam alignment tool, I went to Lowe's and got a piece of 3/16" flat steel bar. It was like $5 and I just hacksawed off a piece about 8.5" lond. I just put an open end wrench on the cam hex to hold it still. I only had to loosen the exhaust cam sprocket. Make sure you reset the vct. They almost always stop in the retarded position. I bought a single T55 and T50 at Autozone for $4 each and they were 3/8 drive.

See Ya'll

Ray

The correct thickness for the tool is 0.200" -- this is not the thickness of the slot, but the space between the top of the slot and the valve cover gasket surface.
