What product do you guys recommend to clean the EGR valve? Carb cleaner? Throttle body cleaner? Non-chlorinated brake cleaner?

Should the EGR valve be soaked in the product, or just wiped clean?

Once the EGR valve is removed, can it be taken apart? If so, how?

The Ford service manual recommends EGR valve cleaner and to follow manufacturer's instructions (I presume that means cleaner rather than EGR mfr).

I doubt it due to diaphram, but see above.

I don't believe so, you'll see yourself it's one of those crimped together things not intended to be disassembled and reused.

Edit:
p.s. I went back to read your other post, which I read earlier today, since I thought you had installed new EGR valve. I see that is not the case. I'll post back there and leave a link for others. http://www.contour.org/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=007205

Where can I buy EGR valve cleaner? Walmart? Auto parts store?

Can I use the same cleaner when cleaning the hole in the upper intake manifold that the EGR connects to?

Can I also use the same cleaner to clean the EGR orifice tube that connects from the EGR valve to the exhaust manifold?

If I can't find EGR valve cleaner, can I use something else?

Sorry for all of the questions, but I have never cleaned an engine part. I am not sure if there is one general cleaner (kerosene?) that can be used for all engine parts, or if each part of the engine needs its own specific cleaning product.

How do you get the EGR valve off? I can get the small bolts off, but not the one on the pipe...?

The pipe is attached to the rear exhaust manifold.

It can be removed with a 1 1/16" wrench.

EGR valves can be cleaned with anything that will soften and remove carbon. One of the best is the Ford Combustion Chamber and Choke Cleaner. Most dealers carry it in either liquid or spray. Most any carb cleaning spray, choke cleaner, or throttle body cleaner will work somewhat.

Personally, I've never had much luck with cleaning an EGR valve. If it is sticking and binding it will usually need to be replaced. I guess it would't hurt to try before spending the money on a new one.
