and i couldnt help but notice it transmits road noise way too well. The tires checked out good and nothing in the car appears to have ever been tampered with. Why do i get so much noise from the rear when driving the car. Its a mellow but audible wooshing sound.

I tend to get a whooshing sound from my rear end every once in a while, but a little spynxter strengthening, and I'm all set.

Not all questions get answers, but occasionally you'll get a humourous response. This accomplishes two things; lets you know someone has taken the time to read your post, and moves your post back to top of the topic list where it will attract attention.

Anyhow, yes, noisy in rear particularly if you have their infamous suspension rattles. Split rear seats and minimal carpeting in trunk don't help. My '98 quieter than the '97 although the latter had much improvement when I recently put on new tires.

my car has horrible noise coming from the rear but i think its because i lost (left) spring clip off brakes last summer....car stops just fine and i dont have the noise when i have my foot on the brake and rolling....if my foot is off the brake it rattles with every lil bump....

other than that my car has been very quiet for the most part since the day i bought it....i was surprised at how quiet the car was....just subtle duratec noise when accelerating hard but no squeaks or rattles other than what i mentioned

I'm still a newbie to this site, but having spent time in a number of other forums, there are certain things that are helpful in diagnosing problems.

More specific information about the vehicle is often beneficial, even though it is a FWD car. I don't know if all '99 SE 'tours had the spoiler or not, but that could be a factor, especially if it has come loose.

You indicate that the "tires checked out good" but tell us nothing about what tires are on there. Different brands of tires on different road surfaces can generate significant noise.

Hopefully you get my point that there are more components to the equation than you offered in your post.

My 98 always makes a lot of noise. I've never found it to be a quiet car. Road noise seems to
be one of the weak points of these cars.

My 98' doesn't seem to be the quitest car I have been in that's for sure. I don't think that the road noise is that bad unless you are on a real rough road (that's all we have here in MI), but other than that all I can think of is your tire noise in general. I recently bought Bridgestone Potenza RE730 tires for my street tires on my Mustang and they have this "noise cancelation tread configuration" that in my own opinion makes a real strange and kinda' loud hissing noise that I have never heard from the rear of my car before... and it is due to the tires (although I love the tires). It could just be a general charecteristic of your tires to be honest with you.
