Ok, get this! I posted not too long ago that my license plate lights refused to come on after I changed the bulbs. It was suggested that I remove some of the corrosion on the contacts and the lights should work. So I picked the light on the left side closest to the trunk bracket with the wiring attached to it. I unscrewed the cover, removed the new bulb, scraped the contacts clean with my screwdriver, replaced the bulb, switched the headlight switch to "on", and what happened? Both license plate lights lit up! I never even touched the righthand one. It appears my problem is solved and I'm glad, but why is it solved? Are these lights wired in series and I just happened to pick the one that was acting up in the first place? Now I'm really curious...

They might be wired in series, but I don't know for sure.

If the problem with corroding bulb sockets keeps happening, scape them clean like you did before, then get some "electrical contact cleaner" and liberally hose each terminal with the stuff. Install NEW bulbs and be sure to put a dab of silicone or di-electric grease inside the socket. It will help prevent mousture from getting in there and help keep the plug from corroding again.

...and again, and again, and again.

I have cleaned mine so many times. If I have one I am happy.

Lights are NOT connected in series. Your jiggling of one, or the trunk lid, has probably overcome corrosion and got them to work. Good their both working now, but keep an eye on them.

I'm providing link to your prior post for continuity:
