Anybody know for sure whether or not the '97-'99 return type fuel pumps that BAT sells will fit in a '95 SE's fuel tank (have you done it?). I'm getting EEC-IV codes (172, 176 & 543) that relate to fuel pump problems and I'm afraid it's ready to croak.
I know the 543 code says that secondary power (relay contact) is dropping out to the pump and that's prolly causing the 172 & 176 lean codes on the O2 sensors. But, I've checked the relay (swapped the PCM & fuel pump ones) and fuse (pulled it out & checked the blades, even replaced it) and I've checked the main connector to the PCM and I still get the codes after a PCM reset and hwy drive of 5 or so minutes (intermittant CEL at cruise).
It's funny, I can't get the thing to code by hard, sustained acceleration or while putzing around in local traffic (wife drove it for a week in local traffic and no codes). The codes only pop up after a few minutes while cruising at 65-70 MPH.
It seems like it should be electrical but a failing fuel pump is the only thing I can think of at this point. Any ideas?
