After exiting the freeway and coming to a stoplight I put my 2000 SVT in neutral. When the light changed I went to put it back in gear and no gears were available and the clutch pedal felt mushy. Being in the front of a long line on a Friday commute I shut the car off and put it in second gear and tried to start it. Luckly second was high enough when the starter lurched the car foward it started after a few feet. I drove home in second gear for about 5 miles.

The line was laying on top of a black mount on the transmission. The line is worn for about a inch right before it is joins a metal line. Not a bad idea to check the routing. Hopefully mine will be the only one.

I had this happen to me the other day too-- the high pressure clutch line from the master to slave cylinder had worn thru and caused a sudden loss of hydraulic fluid. It really was not big deal since I was pretty close to home.

Talking to my local parts guy, he said there is a new part # for the line (newer than the one on my '99 SVT anyways). I don't have the numbers off hand, but does anybody know if there is any difference between the old and new parts? I guess I am hoping Ford has redesigned the line to prevent this chafing based failure. Any info out there?

Where the rubber flex line joins the metal you will notice a groove, this groove is to lock the flex line in the cut out part of the trans cable mount bracket.... wink

The line on my car was never routed through the bracket. The new line is also outside of the bracket again slightly rubbing the linkage. Time to take it back to the dealer, thanks for the info.
