I went to autozone today to test my car out after adding a new coil from the scrap yard due to a misfire that still occurs these are the codes what will i have to replace? any suggestions?

171= system to lean bank 1 (exaust rear bank 1 used just replaced)
401= exaust recirculation flow insufficient detected (egr all air pipes recently cleaned)
306= cylinder 5 misfire detected ( coil just replaced)

Is it time for a timing chain mod if so what are some racing timing chains and where can i get them? Or could i get something like a lsd or diablo chip to retard the timing any suggestions on what to do or where to get cheap parts will be appreciated

In the Ford Technical Service Publication for the 1996 Contour, P0306 is actually cylinder #6.

Possible causes:

-- Ignition System.
-- Fuel Injectors.
-- Fuel Pressure.
-- Evaporative System.
-- Canister Purge.
-- Base Engine.
-- Running out of fuel.

The first thing it asks is if the car has recently run out of fuel.

If the car has not run out of fuel, it asks if there are any other codes present. Since there are in your case, it says to disregard the misfire at this time and address the other CELs.
