Today I went to a local car audio dealer (the only one in my area), and got a price quote for a stereo system upgrade. With a new cassette HU (I have a 12 disk changer), new 6x8's in front, 8 GA wire kit, 10" MTX sub, and an amp, along with installation, came to just over $1000! Everything was Pioneer brand except for the sub, because they don't offer anything else. So, instead of passing out cold on the showroom floor, I thanked the man, took my estimate and said I'd give him a call once I had a chance to think about it. I'm not ready to pay that much, (the prices were all MSRP with absolutely no discount), so I travelled to my fave place on the web after CEG, eBay. Please offer opinions on eq I have chosen, and suggest an amp to go along with what I chose:
Infinity Components for Front
Infinity for Back or Another Infinity for back OR what i would have gotten from dealer for $190 a pair!: Pioneer for back
and finally: Kicker Sub w/enclosure
The HU wasn't a bad price ($130), and by buying at least something from him, I'm hoping they'll install the rest of my stuff that I'll get for less. I have no idea about wiring stuff (I always did poorly in that portion of my physics class, parallel, series, n all that...). I could probably install that back speakers, possibly the components, but wouldnt really know how to set them, and as far as wiring the amp n all that...I'll need to buy a book.:)

Did that price quote include installation?
If i recall correctly this is what i paid for my equipment.
260 for amp
170 for 2 sets of interior speakers
340 for head unit
25 for amp install kit
200 10" woofer and enclosure (including replacement plan)

Thats under $1000 and i installed everything myself. I didnt go and look up everything you had listed but you can match yours against mine (i think the detail are in my signature) to figure whether its worth it or not. The only thing that came from a retail store were the woofers from circuit city. I planned my system for upgrades later, a second amp and a stronger 10". The present configuration has held me over for about 1.5 years, so i guess you can say im please for what its worth. Had i shopped locally it would have been well over 1000 bucks, if they installed it forget about it, and I doubt i would not have been able to find some of that stuff.

What all do you want to amplify...
just the woofer or
woofer and components or
woofer and all interiors?

Whats the rating on that kicker?

Well, the sub of course, and most likely the components too, the rears I'd like to run off the radio - they're just there for passenger enjoyment anyway, and to give me a little bit of sound coming from in back of me. I don't know why, but I've always liked to put the sound more towards the back, but then again, I've never had anything other than factory stuff, either. I appreciate your help.:)

I've got quite a bit of audio equipment forsale. A couple nice JL Audio amps too, one two channel and one five channel amp. Perhaps you may be interested in one of them? As well as my Alpine 7894 deck and an Audio Control Matrix line driver, and an assortment of Knukonceptz RCA cables.

They are all listed in the classified section here.

So a 4 chanel amp in 3 channel configuration sounds perfect for your application. You could also do it with two 2ch amps also but i think the four would be more efficent and cost effective. So if i were you i would shop for a 4 channel amp that can be bridged to 2 or 3 channels (most can). When 2 channels are bridged to 1 be sure the rms power rating on the amp is at least equal to or more that what the subs came handle. Then shop for components whose ratings are about equal to what that amp's single channel ratings are. I hope i am making sense. So generally you want your amp to be able to put out slightly more than what your speakers can handle, you can always lower the gain to keep the sound clean and the speakers safe.
When shopping dont get caught up in the max wattage game, rms is what you want to pay attention to. Thats gonna tell you what your equipment is really capable of. Hope this helps and happy spending!

For what your getting, sounds too expensive to me.

I have:

Profile 800sx (600w rms bridged) running 2 JL Audio 12w0's 8-ohm subs. Which put a 4 ohm load on the amp bridged. I pioneer hu. (head unit is never overpriced, if you want a sweet one its gonna cost money, so if you want a hard drive or anything special its expensive). The amp install kit is like 40-50 bucks. And with my 140 dollar head unit my total system price was like 500 bucks. 1000 is alot of money for a 1 10" system. If i were you, id forget the componet speakers for now and just do the subwoofer setup. Save some money until u get enough to add those later. The stock speakers in the contour don't suck. They are actually pretty darn good. As for the install, I would do it myself. It is realy easy. The only reason it takes a while is because you alot of wiring to run. Should take you about 2 hours if ur ok at doing it, and about 4 if you suck at it . If you need help installing contact me. There are only 3 wires.

I recommend that you try and get some subs that will run you about 150 each to 200. get the size you want to run for a while. Because i got 12" subs so that i could eventually get really good 12" subs and they would still fit in the box. Find out the different kinds of subs he sells there. Throw down that list on the forum and we'll help you pick out some winners!

I dont know much about performance on a car, but i know alot about car audio. I'd like to help.

Thanks a lot for your input. I have some info now, to look for an amp, and yes, I understood a good deal of it. Much appreciated...
