Hey Chris -
First off ... Welcome to the CEG !!!
It was me that you met up with the other day . I was a bit suprised to see someone pull a turn-around & double park on a busy road like that just to look at my car , but I'm glad you did . Like I said when we talked , keep lurking in the forums & keep your eyes peeled over the classifieds & you'll find what you're looking for . There are several tri-state dudes with mucho-fast & hot-looking Contours . Look in peoples signatures (when they post) for mod ideas (most people have links to their own sites) . You can also click on their screen name to bring up a profile , there are often websites in there to look at too .
It seems to be , that the first low-buck power mods to install are an SVT exhaust (around $100 used) and a KKM air intake (about $50 used) . After that , the sky's the limit !!

Welcome aboard.

Allen hit most points on the head. Also check out www.spmotorsports.com - Joe is a one-man show and a great guy.

For best bang for the buck, look into a stainless of aluminum y-pipe. No cat will net more hp/torque w/ more sound that with cat.

Yeah, and there's a group buy on a high flow y-pipe and cat in the group buy forum.

My votes for a three liter!!
Seriously, make sure you read into baffled oil pans and dual mode dampers as well for insurance on the car you're modifying.
Intake/exhaust is the best combination to start with.
If you want to get serious then start looking for SVT heads as the cam profile is good for more power. Also the SVT computer, throttle body and mass air flow (MAF) sensor are good starts.
After that look up chips and N2O and you'll be kickin' it.
Then, once you do that, look in the group buy section for my carbon fiber IMRC covers!! (nothing wrong with a shameless plug)

Now owner of 0 SVT's. my web page

Alright my suggestions after being one of the fastest pre 98 SE's in tri-state area is the KKM, SVT throttle body, dual honed SVT upper intake manifold, SVT exhaust, maybe some 9mm ford racing wires and well the last piece to my puzzle was the Superchip, but still uncertain if it aided in the death of my tour or not so I dont suggest it to many people openly, even try to shy people away from it when they are ordering stuff at CJ's.... anyways with all that on a non-svt I achieved a 15.2 Good luck and hope to see you when I go back to school at PSU Berks, I will be living in North Reading this semster so I will keep eyes open. PEACE
