There's a special tool to do this. Is there any
trick to it? My brother can't get them
disconnected even with the tool, and so I'm gonna
have to look at it tonight.

Any info/advice would be appreciated.

Zetec or Duratec?
What year?

On the returnless Duratec it's just 2 bolts and an O-ring...

The Spring clamp style. You just push the tool (seperator) in and pull the hose off.
The hose may have attached itself to the tube as well. Try to twist/wiggle it both ways a little.

It's actually a 1993 Escort, but it uses the same
fittings/clips as the 1995 Duratec--spring clamp style. I was told that putting WD-40 on it may help get it free, and it may take a fair amount of tugging/twisting to get it off.
