Help! This is the second time it's done this. Occasionally, every time I turn the wheel to the right and only to the right, it makes a terrible groaning/squeeling noise. When I make left turns, it sounds normal. I had the tie rods changed already.....any ideas as to what it could be??

Sounds like something in the power steering. Anyone else agree with this? I have a similar noise in my 99' Tour when turning the wheel either way. Can anyone tell me how to stop this?

What stopped it for me was when I had the rack replaced. Sorry.....

Does the noise occur both when the car is standing still and when it's moving, or only when it's moving? If it only happens when you're in a moving right turn, it could be a wheel bearing (left front?).

Pretty embarassing huh? I had the same problem for a while when I would go to parallel park. I just played around with the power steering fluid levels until it didn't happen any more. I has only happened once since then. HTH

Yeah, it is pretty embarassing.....here i am with the car all clean and shined up, looking nice for work and i'm parallel parking this car that sounds like a rickety old truck. It does it regardless of whether the car is stationary or not. Only thing is it does it sporadically....by the way how much is a new steering rack by the way? I'll check the steering fluid levels though.

HEllo,

My car does this too, but when i turn the steering all the way to the left. The cause is this: the connection of the wheel to the rack & pinion was rubbing on the inside of the rim of the tire, causing the grinding sound. I am not sure exactly how to fix this. However, my rack & pinion is loose so i'm getting it replaced, so hopefully this will fix the problem

I have a sort of a winding noise going on when I steer either way. It happens when im moving and when im standing still. It sort of sounds like garden hoses rubbing against eachother. It never used to make this noise, any ideas?
