I think Ray got $8000 for his at Campbell Ford in Ottawa when he traded ont he SVT Focus. A Nissan dealer offered the guy from whom I bought my car $8K a year ago. We did a sell/trade deal where I would buy from him, then we would do the paperwork through his dealer, so he would get that amount for his trade. he was ahppy, i got it for less that market value at the time, and the salesman got a commission for watching us sign papers. The only casualty was the extended warranty.

Ray did indeed get $8000 for his SVT Contour. I believe the chap that bought my car paid around $10K for it. I know for a fact that Campbell's had it on their lot for only a day or two, the price I saw on line was $10,980. So, they didn't make an absolute killing on my trade in, but still, considering what I paid for that car a few years back... The simple truth about used car dealers these days is that for the most part, they are over stocked and demand for late model used cars is in the toilet. Why buy a two year old car for $15K, if you can get the same thing brand new with 0% for 5 years for about $20K. So, most dealers will have to unload a car at slim profit if it has been sitting a while. If that 99 SVT for 18-something is still around in late summer, I'm sure they'll be singing a different tune. That being said (written), I also know that someone who has a real hard-on for an SVT Contour (much like I did when I bought mine) will salivate all over it, and sign the purchase papers and leave a blank cheque. I know that every car I've bought, I've probably gotten too little in trade and paid too much for the new one. So, if I ever buy another USED car, I'm going to be absolutely ruthless and low-ball with my offers. Bottom line is if a dealer needs to unload it, they'll take a break-even or even slight loss deal to move the vehicle. May sound mean, but too many people are paying too much and getting screwed on trades.

You just missed a huge score here in Ottawa. A friend of a friend's father was looking to sell his. No offers, nothing. He listed it at $13,000, but knew he wouldn't get that. It had to go no matter what, as he was getting a new WRX. He sold it last week to someone at a dealership who wanted it for themselves for $10,000. Pretty damn good deal for a fully loaded silver SVT with around 70,000 km's.

If that guy's car was advertised in the Citizen, with a 824-something phone number, I'm going to cry. I was very tempted to call, and if I could have gotten that car for around $11K, I would have found a way to make it happen. Should have called. Knew though that if I did, I'd probably buy it. Then my wife would have divorced me.

Yeah, that's him. He's from here in Orleans. He was willing to take almost anything because he knew it had to go in a week. He works at the Mazda dealership, and did a bit of work to the car as well. Also, it had brand new wheels and tires.

Women take away from precious car time Except for my girlfriend, who tolerates me and my "illness" with gentle good humour. Even goes to the Toronto Auto Show with me.

Well, my wife is pretty good with my "illness" as well. She lets me read my Automotive sections of the paper, the classifieds, Autotrader, Car & Driver, etc all weekend long if I want to. She even doesn't mind being dragged to car shows and dealerships. But. She can't drive a manual transmission car all that well. She took lessons, and tried to drive the new Focus, but got a little discouraged. I know she could at least drive the car if I had a spastic attack or something at the wheel and drive me to a hospital, but otherwise, I know she would have not been happy if I'd bought another SVT Contour, thereby forcing us to sell her 99 Corolla automatic to afford it...Or to at least justify the purchase. We barely need 2 cars, certainly not 3 by any practical stretch. Oh well. Someday, when I have more "disposable" income (money to burn, more money than brains) I will get either a cherry SVT Contour to keep forever, or any year SVT Cobra convertible. Preferably a very cheap, very well kept 96 convertible in t-red with tan leather. blah blah. I'm rambling. Slow day at the laundromat for me.

Westgate Ford in Hamilton has a black with black leather CSVT. Aftermarket 17" rims with not bad rubber. 5 speed, Pioneer CD, exterior is rough but a good polish will help. Don't know anything else about it, moght be worth a phone call if someone is interested. It's not even on the lot yet, I think they just got it in. I can probably find the phone# if anyone is interested.

No such thing as black leather on an SVT. Most likely the Midnight Purple...errrr, Blue. The only other interior colour for the CSVT was tan.

Re: DON'T BUY FROM BARG I agree. The knowledge of what actually goes on behind the scenes at Barg is scary. To be fair, a large part of the car industry is the same. I'm buying new next time. Where do I order my CSVT? heh I'm just pissed because, while my wife actually works for a Ford Dealer, I could only get $7000 as an offer for my '98 that has all the options but automatic, only 80K, and the balance of the 6yr/120 premium care warranty. That means I just have to drive it until it dies to get my money out of it
