making your own sure beats the hell out of buying one only to have it break in traffic two months after you got it. especially since you can't get in contact with OBX to save your life, i've tried for so long

i might be doing to same here soon, plus i'll have my money back. i took the reverse lockout on mine, it's no biggie

"THIS JUST EQUATES RICE..." God how i hate that.. because its diffrent.. Rice,,,,,Rice.. give it up.. I am a faithful CEG'er been a quiet member & respectful. All this time and i think i had enough.. of this bashing... Its to the point that even now i would hate to post a pic of my car and its mods.. .. Regardless the car looks great I love it and nothings ricey about it....

Well put. Let people do whatever they want to their cars. I congratulate everyone on their mods, whether it be cheap or costly. People do whatever they want to make themselves feel good about themselves and their cars. In turn it adds to our driving pleasures. If you do something different from somebody else, it just means your car is all the more unique. cheers to everyone who has done work on your tour's and stique's. these are our cars. Let the world see what they are missing.

Why?
I hate it. Only senile grannys would try and shift into 6th gear on a car equipped with only 5 gears.

What about downshifting from 5th to 4th?

Andy.

The reverse lockout doesn't prevent that - man I would hope so too, that would suck to have to pull up on the collar to get out of 5th!

All it does is prevent you to from getting into reverse without pulling up on the collar. IMHO, A truly gh3y invention.

I think what Andy was getting at is that if you're downshifting from 5th to 4th, it would be possible (though unlikely) to accidently shift into reverse. I don't want to think about what would happen to my car if that happened. But the reverse lockout keeps you from being able to do that.

I have a b&m short shifter and it doesnt shorten the throw at all, it simply is just shorter. Now if it was a short "throw" shifter like I keep hearing the OBX is ( i beleive that is the name) then yeah it would be pointless in comparison but if I would have know the b&m was not a short "throw" then I would have cut mine to.

I cut my shifter down too. First I disassembled the reverse lockout and decided that it was a feature I wanted to keep as stock as possible. So I cut a 1 1/4" slug out of the middle of the plastic lockout shaft and cut the same amount of material off the shifter. Then I went to the hardware store and bought a thread cutter that matched the inside of the stock shift knob and recut the lowered shifter. I then bought the strongest epoxy material I could find and epoxied (is that a word??) the lock out back together. Then reassembled. Now the shifter looks stock, although an inch lower, has a working reverse lockout and can use the factory knob....and all it cost was the thread cutting tool...a couple bucks.

I had originally done the same thing except a little different. I cut my shifter the same way but then went to murrays and bought a "die" set. These sets are used for threading medal. When I got back home I tried the diffrent dies on the old thread till I got the one that screwed right on, then used that die to rethread my now shortened shifter, thus being able to use the stock shift nob. I then returned the die set and was on my way.

Six months later I bought the B&M. It is a world of difference, took a lot of the slop out of the shifter.
