Based on the description of the problem in your lead thread, you only have a Torque Converter problem. Take your car to a tranny shop & TELL them that you think your TC is going bad. They'll think you know a little about trannys & will be less likely to rip you off. If your fluid is not burned up, your TC is very likely the problem.
Don't let a $1000 problem grow to $2700 if you can help it!! Use the extra money for a shift kit.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Said the fluid is brown and nasty.... I saw the fluid before it was towed, and it was brown, not red.

OMFG! this sux ass. i got 3 leaks in my transmission. 2 leaks are easy to fix, the 3rd is near the front and they said the only way to fix it is to rebuild the tranny! FUHK!!!! so IF i dont need a new TC (which i probably do if its got metal chuncks stuck in it) then it will be 1,200$ including labor to rebuild it. if i need a new TC on top of that then its gonna cost 1,500! GOD DAMNIT! i still owe like 4g's on the damn car! [censored]. BTW - i went to AAMCO. i think they are pretty good, they got some pretty good customer service and explained a hole sh*tload of stuff to me about it. damn this sux sooo much, especially seeing how im BROKE! time to take out another loan.

it´s ´just´ 300 more, right? i´d rather go for it if i´m already this deep in there; you said there´s metal chunk inside th TC? replace it or you might end up with another repair soon.

Just a note:
My sister had an absolutely awful experience with AAMCO last year. She blew the ATX in her 94-ish Escort. Two botched replacement trannies, several calls to the Better Business Bureau, and the threat of legal action later, she got *some* of her money back, junked the escort, and bought a brand new Corolla.
These AAMCOs are franchised, so be careful which ones you go to. Like I said, just a heads-up. I know I'll never go there.
Old car: '98 SVT T-Red
K&N air filter; Ford Focus RS shift knob. Off to be auctioned off somewhere.
New car: 2003 Honda Accord DX Sedan, 5-speed.

I feel for you, man. I really do. I was so despirate when the tranny went out on my Mazda a few years back that I bought a master rebuild kit for $160 & did it myself with common tools.
Wish you were closer, I woulda helped you do your tranny for next to nuttin - couple beers & a smootch from your GF.
