I have a huge problem w/ my car and dont know what it is. ill try to explain it...if im going like 40mph(or a decent speed) and abruptly stop (not a screetching stop but a quick stop) as soon as i come to a complete stop, the car feels like it "kicks" out gear then i have to wait like 5-10 seconds for it to kick back into gear. if i give it gas when it does this it dont move then all of a sudden it kicks back into forward and goes....i dunno wtf the deal is. im wondering if my tranny is shot or something...it doesnt do it if i come to a stop slowly but when i stop fast its been doing it EVERY time and its not good at all

IMHO, you've got a leaky seal on/in your Torque Converter AND/OR you need to have your tranny fluid changed & the internal filter screen replaced.

Another possibility (less likely) that may be discussed is an internal pump/pump seal problem, but that would be an issue whenever you come to idle & your tranny would eventually burn up from lack of fluid circulation.

Your ATF probably looks/smells OK, you just get the low pressure kick. I've got that to a smaller degree in my Contour & here is what I have done. I added a little more fluid - 'bout 1/2 quart until I gather the time to pull the tranny & replace the filter, TC, & add a shift kit.

For now the symptom is almost gone, I just know that at one point I will need to replace the filter & TC. If you have the know-how to pull the engine from your car, you can probably perform the work yourself. Its really not very complicated once you get it out of the car.


Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Sounds like TC Clutch slippage to me. Have you checked your fluid? Let us know what the level reads and the condition of the fluid.

You could try to get it scanned, but if there is no CEL on, it possible will not pick up anything. I am not sure if slips are always kept in memory, but I know that my TC clutch slip was.

If all else fails, you could always go and get a bottle of the Lucas Trans Fix, but it will not help if the pump has went under.

Similiar problems here, mine is waiting to be looked at tomorrow... Everyone's TC seems to be going all of a sudden.... what is this, some sort of mass TC rebellion?

Thanx for the help guys... All my fluids were fine, i just had my oil changed a little over a week ago. i guess i need to bring it to the shop thanx

Just got the call, car is fuxored... new tranny time! They wanted $2700

I am calling around for cheaper maybe... I am sure the pump went out.
