If you use the rvm intake that's on e-bay for our cars and buy the d-tec heatshield for it along with the hole in the hood for the scoop you'll be fine.

Different size and shape. 1785- 5 in. diameter, 8 1/2in. long. BTW this is the filter I'm talking about 3530- This filter is tapered, 4 3/8 in. to 5 3/8 in. diameter and it's 7 in. long.
Couldn't tell you which one is better but I'm happy with mine.

RVM is junk, bought one for my SE. Poor craftsmanship, cheap hoses, clamps. The filter is small, the MAF adaptor is small, the intake pipe is small and paper thin! It has been removed from my car and installed in the trash!
Search around a little, there may be a few posts re; intakes, filters, heat shields, induction.

I havent heard any good things about the RVM intake. I'd stay away from it.

Nope. Mine's not an RU-3530, but that's another story.
However the RU-3530 is the best choice for a 3.5" MAF adapter though.
There is no real performance benefit in getting a filter that is over 2x the required effective filtering area. An RU-3530 will sustain any NA Duratec without a problem.
I also prefer the tapered cone filter because it helps keep it off the inner fender (I.E. losing filter area) and also allows incoming air from the fender draw/air hose to pass more evenly across a greater portion of the filter.
Also more of the filtering area is used and used more effectively due to it's shape. As the distance from the MAF opening gets farther away the draw of air is weaker so narrowing the filter helps even out this effect. Pulling across a greater area and more evenly is more effecient.

I thought of something....if someone could design a hood that has something like a luver on each side that would direct air directly into the top of that box you would get a true cold air intake! And the faster you go the more air goes in there!! What do you think? Somebody who's good with photoshop could give us a picture of this maybe?
