I used my spare tire last week to assist in rotating my tires. It looked pretty scary on there. I definitely don't want to fork over the dough for an extra E0 wheel & tire, but I was thinking about just getting a single full-size wheel & tire from a regular Contour. Has anyone done this? How much should I pay for a single "15 wheel & tire (I don't need an alloy wheel, either-I don't even need a hubcap)?

you are actually riding around on your sparetire in your tire rotation process?

It sounds like its just being used to hold up the car while the other tires are being changed. Anyway, you should easily be able to get a wheel/tire from any salvage yard and depending on the condition of the tire, you should be able to get one real cheap and either keep the tire or put your own on. Full size spares are definitely a good idea, I use one of my old E1's now, I got caught once on the interstate about 100 miles away from my destination and had to use the spare, I only pushed it to 70(limit was 65) and still had people flying by me.

What is the largest wheel/tire you can fit in the wheel well?

I have the E0 "16s on there now-I was thinking of getting a spare "15 or something. I would imagine a spare "16 wouldn't be cost effective. I haven't had to drive with the spare yet (knock on wood), I was just using it to prop up the car while I rotated the tires (I don't have jackstands or anything).

My wife's Cherokee came with a full size spare and a matching alloy wheel. It's good and bad, because you end up just throwing the "spare" on there, and it becomes a normal tire, while you procrastinate about fixing the flat one (that's actually going on now). With the Contour, it will just be a temporary spare, but something a bit more substantial than the freakin' tricycle wheel that's in the trunk now.

Looks like I'm headed to the salvage yard. Thanks guys!

MassContour, I bought a used EO rim at ABC/Greenleaf salvage yard in Leominster for $30 bucks and it was in excellent condition. Give them a call, ask for Cal,

BTW they can also get you a new EO rim for $100 since Greenleaf = Ford.

I've got 15" steelies for my snow tires, they work fine with stock brake setup. They are dirt cheap too, but at least you can get a better tire on there than the spare.

That was my plan. Dirt cheap.
