My windshield wipers died on me last night. Of course this is in the middle of the night in a shower and I'm on the highway and I can't see a thing. Luckily, I was able to get off the highway and while sitting around by the side of the road, the rain died down and I just took the local roads home, stopping once in a while to move the wipers manually a few times.
I took it apart this morning and noticed that the linkage arm that connects the motor to the wiper assembly had poped off and was sitting in the bottom. Popped it back in and everything was fine again. It looks like it's just a ball socket and there's no way to tighten it or anything. Didn't take too close a look, just thought maybe I could replace that arm. It also didn't seem like it was that loose.
I went down to the local dealer and they want $108 for the whole linkage assembly. Any other way around this? It just occured to me that if it was rubber or something, maybe I could apply something to it so it'd swell up again or maybe it was just a one time fluke and won't happen again... Yeah right...
Anyway, just wondering if I should just bite the bullet and replace the whole assembly or just wait to see if it falls off again. I used RainX on the windshield so at least the next time I'll still be able to see.
