Well today as I was coming home from work my mom calls me up and asks me to stop over. As I pull in to her driveway I hear a loud bang and I some dragging sounds. I'm like WTF. I get out to find my right side (passengers) tire pushed up against my fender. Car is immobile at this point so I get out the jack and start jacking up the car. I take the tire off to find that the ball joint broke. Since the ball joint broke and the car was moving it also pulled the drive shaft out of the joint and bent the hell out of the sway bar end link. So now here I sit pissed off but yet glad it did not happened to me when I am driving like a nut. Does anyone know if I can get a new ball joint and replace it or do I need to get a new lower control arm???? Thank for any help.

If there's no damage to the control arm, doesn't sound like there should be, i would just get new ball joints. The current joints are riveted in, so you will need to drill those out. New ball joints will come with bolts to replace those rivets. The job shouldnt' be too difficult, considering the ball joint is already out (the hardest part is getting the joint out IMO) and it's on the right side, correct? Well it's simple to drop the control arm on the right side, it's the left(driver) side that is a pain in the ass. HTH and btw pick up a Haynes manual before starting the job.

The SAME thing happened to me! I was on leave from the Army, and in the middle of my 1300 mile trip, while doing 35mph, (slowing for a stop sign) the DRIVERS side broke on my mystique. No real damage, but I had just hit 51,000 miles, and Ford wouldn't cover the repair because of the 1000 miles over warranty. It ended up costing me $1000 for the repair from the nearest ford dealership. THAT SUCKED! (Plus, I wasted a week of leave in the middle of nowhere waiting for my car to be repaired).
