Steering Wheel Outside Cover Loose/Noisy #59889 05/02/02 05:01 PM

OP John Junior Member J Joined: May 2001 Posts: 24 Ottawa, ON , CANADA	Hi Guys! The cover on my 98 Mystique's steering wheel is loose enough that it rattles over not-smooth roads. I have never taken the thing off as there is an air bag beneath it and I might set it off. The 3rd party manual I have really doesn't explain it well (as is usual). How do I get the plastic cover off without blowing up the air bag (and myself in the process)and is it an easy thing to do. I was hoping to find the cause of the loose condition as well as verify that an air bag is actually still there ( a used car).

goldsmi Member G Joined: May 2000 Posts: 345 Fairport, NY, US	Don't gotta take anything off. With a T-25 (IIRC) torx driver, reach behind the edges of the cover. There are two recessed screws, one on each side. tighten 'em up and your rattle is gone.
