Just wanted to pass along an FYI.....

Sealed Power offers pistons for the 2.5 and the 3L in standard, +.25mm, +.50mm, +.75mm, +1mm and for the 2.5L only the +1.25mm is available.

All of which are about $23 ea., but you'll need the rings and it'd be a good idea to get the new wrist pins.

I got the new +1mm 3L pistons, rings and wrist pins for $270 or so. The only other option (well there is OEM ford versions too...) that I've found is the JE pistons @ $150 ea. (piston, ring and wrist pin), or $900 for a full set. JE will build to meet your needs though, and they are a better quality overall....

It's the oversize. If your cylinder bore is worn or damaged, you bore it out a little larger until the damage/wear is gone. Because the bore is larger now, you need oversized pistons and rings. The +.xxmm is how many millimeters standard bore the engine is bored out. There are standard overbore sizes, i.e. the ones listed.

The overboring repairs the damage/wear and also increases the displacement a small amount and compression ratio a small amount.

so if the 2.5L only comes in +1.25mm, that would increase cr from 10.5:1 to like 11:1??? That sounds like a great NA2.5L idea, anyone try this??

Ummm...

Stock compression is 9.7:1
Most SVT's are 10:1
00 SVT is 10.25:1 but smaller bore to begin with. (81.67mm vs 82.4mm)

You may want to double check that +1.25mm is for the old bore size, not the new smaller bore size.
Also you have to check if the pistons are for the stock engine or if they are the domed SVT pistons.

Those are some very big "ifs".

BTW - The jump from standard to +1mm on the 3L piston bore gives about another 2 tenths of compression.
So on the stock 2.5L piston a +1.25mm jump would not even reach 10:1

i just recently went throught Nikolas at duratecperformance to get some Ross Racing 8.5:1 low compression pistons. They are a 1mm overbore as well for a 3.0L. A set was $780 ($130 a piston). That includes everything including shipping. Perfect if you decide to go with forced induction. If your interested, give Nikolas a hollar, he has 2 sets of them at his shop.

Now that I'm back on my 3L path, I've been checking it out again

I thought that if you bore it out, you lose some compression because you are increasing the area inside the cylinder.

Then, if you want to keep the same ratio, use a smaller thickness head gasket to bump up the CR.

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Mike
