I just found out that my oil pan screw to drain the oil has been stripped and the pan itself is also stripped. I tried one of those new FRAM quick change oil plug, but the remaining threads on the pan wont hold it. Any suggestions???

Although I can't refer to any by name I think there are several after market products to deal with this frequent problem. Try an auto supply store.

Bingo, but does Heli Coil work with liquids? I've only used it on screw holes and such that were "dry". Just asking... :p

Can't you just buy the next bigger drain plug and tap an appropriate hole?

Well, Heli-coil sells kits to repair spark plug holes, so I imagine they seal up well enough for an oil pan.
Or, you could just drill and tap for a bigger drain plug and use whatever bigger size works, I guess.

Sorry guys drilling/tapping oil pan wasn't the type of device I was suggesting, since they would create metal cuttings that would have to be removed. I was thinking of a rubber type plug that goes in and expands when tightened to seal the drain. I can picture it but can't name it, sorry.

Thanx for the input. I went to 3 different garages and re-tapping the pan is a possibility. However, they also said that the pan might crack since ii is aluminum. I'll check out heli-coil anyway. I'm really thinking about selling the car, but I have invested a lot into it and would hate to part with it.

OK checked out the device referred to in earlier post. Sold here by Canadian Tire but comes from U.S. Sold under brand name OIL-TITE a line of various oil drain plugs (replacement, oversized, self-tap, expanding rubber, etc.) Manufacturer: Motomite, Division of R&B Inc. P.O. Box 1800 Colomar, PA. 18915-1800 U.S.A.

Sorry I can't advise re US retailer. Price should be about $5 US.

Thanx for the info. I'll see if I can contact them for the fix. I'm still looking at parting with the car anyway. Probably later in the summer before I move out west.
