what is the better intake for the 98 CSVT?? KKM or the K&N with the heatshield? does the KKM actually use the snorkel? i have the shoshop K&N "cold" setup with the CTAmotorsports intake pipe, but i experience a moaning sound i think being caused by the stock snorkel blowing air over the intake and making a bottle effect since it is shorter than the stock air box. i am considering changing intakes but wanted advice first.

the moaning sound is also called "moosing" try doing the throttle hang (TH) fix on the CEG main site and it should get rid of it...fixed it on mine and on my old mystique

or instead of the throttle hang fix, you could replace the hose that runs from the intake to IAC valve, this hose is the culprit of moosing and replacing it is actually easier that the throttle hang fix.........

But replacing the hose won't get rid of the actual "throttle hang" which is extremely annoying and serves an exclusive purpose of helping emissions IIRC. Besides, if he has the cta intake pipe and the sho shop intake filter, then the throttle hang is probably already fixed since I don't think it works with the new pipe. Somebody confirm this nonsense.

Keep the K&N filter its a much better filter. The KKM seems to collapse after 6k. As far as the moaning do like everyon else said and try the Th fix.

When i say 6k i mean on the RPMs, Once it goes over 6krpms the KKM dosent suck in as much air as the K&N filter. Sorrry for the confusion.

Any inverse cone filter suffers from this. Not just the KKM. It just happens to use a filter with an inverse cone (POS) design.

Go w the KKM, it's clearly the most popular. Some say it "collapses" after 6k rpm but i dont particularly buy that. Mine rips hard throughout the band, and besides, i shift at 6250-6500 when gunning it anyways so what difference does it make. Anyone who claims to "feel" the difference between a kkm and k&n is full of sh!t. Its a difference either way of at most +/- 1-2 hp (depending on which moron u talk to). JoHnNy SvT

Hope you have your suit on. And for the record there was a pretty noticeable difference on my car when I switched from the kkm to a k&n. Granted my k&n is abit on the large side.
