Ok here it is... I have a kkm, like every other csvt driver in the world. anyways, it doesn't fit tightly into the stock intake port to the right of the filter. It's a loose fit, certainly not air tight. So would it make sense for me to tighten up the fit using duct tape or something to ensure maximum air intake? or (as i suspect) is that intake hole that leads down into the fender area fairly useless? From examining it, it doesn't appear to have any significant air intake function. Someone enlighten me please. Also, I've been scheming to fasten a 3" plastic tube to the mouth of the filter and run it down to the lower air dam for a ram/cold air setup. Obviously this is not a new idea but ive scouted it out and I think i make it work(although it will take a couple twists and turns). We'll see if I can pull it off and if it helps. Johnny SVT

You could do that, but it probably won't make much difference. i switched to a closed end K&N filtercharger and noticed better results than with my KKM....you can plug up the connector to the fender with a towel, rubbermaid container, etc. to see what i'm talking about. The dual opening on the KKM actually cost horsepower.

I removed the snorkel and installed industrial vac. hose which runs from the low/left of the lic. plate (on my SE) to the filter area. I've read (in the forums) that inverse cone filters aren't the best choice. You can get a K&N RU-3530 from 'AJUSA' for about $33.00.

hey you know what, i've been in the process of doing the tube technique for a while, if i don't get rid of my car this summer i'm gonna do it, but what i have planned if i do end up keeping it is, doing a battery relocation to the trunk, take out the battery tray, make some adjusments to it and mount it in the trunk with the original tray from the engine bay, and then run the homemade intake tube from the bumper grill on the far right side, next to the fog light. That's how i'm gonna do mine, so, let me know how yours turns out, PM me or somethin, good luck

Hey guys... good news, I made my own cold air intake today. I went to Home Depot today and purchased a 1.5" pool vaccum tube about 3 1/2 feet long. I fitted one end into the opening in the kkm and bent it around, then pulled it down to the ground through a a tight opening near the battery, then tucked it underneath little spoke just inside the wheel on the drivers side. A little duct tape (no one will ever see) holds the tube opening in place facing the road about 6inches behind the lower air damn. I couldn't run it right up to the lower air damn since theres a bunch of crap in the way, but it seems just functional placed slightly behind/below it. It looks cool, you can see the blue/black tube when looking at front driver wheel. I guess I'd need a pic to really show what i mean. I took it for a spin several times and it seems to help. The kkm seems to begin its roar 250-500 rpms earlier, which means more air intake. Pick up may have improved a little bit, but it should certainly make a difference in the hot So Cal summer heat. My only concern now is that the tube doesn't begin to melt because its touching anying hot under the hood. I pulled it tight but i suspect it slightly touches a piece that gets pretty hot (not sure what it is). Hope it doesn't melt, I'll keep ya posted because it was a cheap and easy mod! Johnny SVT

If you're worried about the tube melting try using some non plastic ducting. You should be able to pick up some aluminum foil type ducting like what's used on your clothes dryer at home depot. That would probably work a lot better and should be just as felxible as the plastic.

Why did you run the hose into the engine bay?

The tube isn't that close to the actual engine. Believe me I studied my options on how to route the tube underneath the car (i didn't want to relocate the battery or screw w anything else) It was like fitting a square peg into a round hole. fortunetely I found a way to fit it...the only possible/functional way. I'll work on pics, anyone could do it.

You are wrong! There is a much better way and you could have run a hose twice the diameter of the one you installed. WAIT, I'm one of those full of sh!t guys you referred to in your recent general mods post that uses and believes the K&N is better than the inverse cone KKM ... nevermind. I look foward to your next post. Please make it as cool and dramatic as you can. I really enjoyed the part about the "KKM ripping through the band" and "gunning it" please post ASAP.
