Does anybody know if an SVT focus engine could be supported by a regular Zetec ECM if the need for IMRC controls was eliminated? Would a custom chip be necessary or does it have enough range of adjustment to correct for all the necessary changes. Also, the engine is complete with injectors and factory mass air meter.
thanks -FD

I am not sure how this would play into it but the SVT Focus Zetec has a Dual Stage Intake which switches the intake runners at a certain RPM to increase HP in the upper RPMS.
I am not sure if this would be part of your potential project. You would need a way to control this if it is.
BTW, there are NO readily available chips for the SVT Focus because no one seems to be able to figure it out.

well, you are not goin to be able to support the engine on the regular zetec comp. There is a lot of differences in the SVT zetec and the base 2.0L zetec.
There is the VCT that is on the intake cam, the secondaries in the IM, different fuel map, different MAFS, injector size, higher CR.. etc, etc... The easiest way to get an SVT engine in either the contour or the focus, is to purchase,or acquire the SVT comp as well...

I was planning on buying the ford racing intake manifold to eliminate the two stage intake. I will be getting the computer, but I have been having difficulty finding a ford dealer willing to defeat the PATS system for me. From what I understand defeating PATS isn't too complicated if you know what you are doing. Also, I will not be getting the keys, so that leaves me stuck. Also, I have not been able to find out if the half of the wiring harness that goes from the computer to the car (not the engine) is compatible with the SVT ecm...yada yada yada. Lotsa coll parts I can't use.

you don't have to defeat PATS
you just have to get your keys reflashed to match the new code
any dealer can do this, it is a standard ford shop job, don't know exact cost

Hold on your getting a SVT zetec and replacing the head. WHY? why not just get regualr zetec. As far as stroke and bore there the same. The head and the ECU and the 6 speed tranny is waht makes them diffrent. If you change the head then you might as well have had the normal zetec.

I'm not looking into just a head swap because I got the engine and stuff as part of a package deal with a bunch of other parts.

Ohhh so your bulding the motor then putting it in. Well i think unless you want to get a New wiring harness computer, and spend hours and hours trying to splice this and that. You proabaly would be better off with a head swap IMO.
