Something still doesn't seem right with that Paul.

Thats what i was thinking. Compression goes up and power goes down

your compression goes up and your hp goes down? dude the only way that happened is if your air filter is a cinder block or something. look at all the old engines from the 70's with like 11.1 compression with like 350 hp and crap.. then look how they dumbed down the compression and lost a lot of hp... dude, u dont lose it unless something else is wrong.

What year is the car and what fuel are you running? It is possible that the knock sensor has detected some pre-ignition and pulled advance out of the ignition curve.

Hector shaved his head...but I don't think it is at all realated to his car....JK

Ummm as far as a port and polish, that would be good for your head (on the car). The only thing that I have heard that is bad about doing this is the intake runners on the Zetecs are made of plastic. The best thing would be matching the intake runners to the new head work....again....plastic runners, I have heard that it can be done but...it is plastic...still though it is a good idea. Yup cams Good! headers and exhuast, intake all good steps. You wanna also be thinking reaaaaal soon about a chip also.

go here.. its all you need...

www.jepistons.com

www.focus-central.com

JE pistons sells higher CR pistons and a lil lower. Focus Central sells really low CR pistons for high boost capabilities and safety to your block (8:1 CR!!) That is what I am getting, however, I am boosting soon.

You may want the 10 or higher CR pistons from JE they are a good company. Just search under focus and it will pull right up!

Dont shave the head, buy new pistons and better piston rings. Get the SVT Focus piston rings, they are awesome! Buy a new IM, a metal one, then port and polish the head and IM and make them match. Focus Central has a new IM for sale now that will get you over 170HP, and you can slap on a bigger 65mm or 70mm TB when you have that IM ... and you can purchase up to 40lbs injectors there as well, so fuel will not be an issue.. just need to find a good fuel pump!

Yes, everybody, I know this means there is something wrong, that it's not supposed to lose horsepower with raised compression.

One thing that occurred to me is that if the head warped, maybe the valve seats don't seal perfectly. But the compression test showed 150-170 PSI on all cylinders after it was reassembled, so I don't think that can be it. There's also the question of cam timing, which might be off a bit or might not be. What I can say is that in the last year or so, the intake and exhaust cams have somehow diverged a bit so that they are out of sync with each other by about one degree. But neither seems to be off by more than maybe a degree and a half overall, which is about as accurately as I can measure it anyway.

I don't think I have a knock sensor. I'm using 91 or 92 octane, since I got definite pinging on warm days with 89 and terrible pinging with 87. It might still occasionally ping just a tiny bit on the first moment of pull from a stop, but it's so brief and faint I can't tell if it's actually pinging or not.

It sure would be nice to hook up some good diagnostics and find out what's going on with the timing, mixture, etc.
