I have to replace the thermostat on my Mystique this weekend. I bought the car three weeks ago, and it had 74000 miles on it. I was wondering if there was any way to tell if the water pump has already been replaced or not while my dad and I were in there anyway. Thanks for your help.

Look for a plastic impeller blade. If your car has got one, replace the water pump with a TREDEX brand one. They are metal....just like their SUPPOSED to be!!!!!!!

Where is the plastic impeller blade (in relation to the WP) and what does it look like?

Also, does anyone have any pics?

The plastic impeller is inside the water pump...it's what moves (impells) the water through the cooling system...If your car is over heating it's likely to be a water pump, and if it was replaced by a Ford dealer the updated pumps still have plastic impellers. If you're car is functioning fine I wouldn't waste the energy, but if you insist...it's not worth cracking the seal on your current pump to check...if you check it - replace it- this will save you a headache later on.

I'm a tech in a Ford garage and I hate working on these things, but I love my car.
