my '99 sport auto has an extreme power fluctuation...seems to run faster in cold damp weather, no power in hot dry...is this a sensor? (not becuz of the A/C, btw). I have 60k hard-driven miles...what do you guys think? Have it checked for codes? I've changed the fuel filter, nothing else. Thanx for any info!

If your check engine light doesn't turn on when your driving, then there are no codes to scan so you can save your $$$s on that. I would check the intake for obstructions/leaks and clean up the throttle body and EGR passages if this hasn't been done yet. The plugs and wires are probably pretty well worn by now also and could be replaced. A bottle of injector cleaner over your next couple of gas fill-ups wouldnt hurt. An upper/lower manifold overhaul brings new life to tired contours.

it could as well be something as simple as dirty fuel injectors or dirty/worn sparkplugs

My understanding is that codes could still be stored even if the CEL didn't come on. I read somewhere that the CEL comes on mainly for emissions type problems and other problems don't create a CEL.

I would say buy a cheap Ford code checker at a parts shop just on priciple. As for more power in the cooler wet conditions, that is normal. Cooler air is more dense than warm air. More atoms in a smaller space. that's why if you leave a basketball outside when it's cold, it goes soft as if underinflated, and why it hardens back up as it warms up.
Wet air is also a factor, although I cannot remember why from science class. Damn brain, killing my beer cells...I mean beer killing brain cells...;D

At what times and RPM ranges are the power fluctuations occurring? Is is a power fall off, or a true fluctuation? And, at idle or any time under power/acceleration?
