P1443: Evaporative Emission Control System - Vacuum System - Purge Control Solenoid or Purge Control Valve fault.

The engine light came on so I got it checked and this was the code. Is there anything I should check out or clean for this????

Ok thanks, I'm glad it isn't something expensive like the other CEL's have been for me.

From the service manual........

HW7 DTC P1443: CHECK THE VOLTAGE ON THE PURGE FLOW (PF) SENSOR CIRCUIT VOLTAGE WITH ENGINE RUNNING
Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1443 indicates an incorrect evaporative system purge control valve flow.

Possible causes:

Obstructed, open or cracked hoses between EVAP canister purge valve and intake manifold.
Damaged EVAP canister purge valve.
Damaged PF sensor.
Key off.
Disconnect PF sensor.
Check for loose pins or broken wires by pulling moderately on the PF, VPWR and PWR GND circuits at PF sensor harness connector.
Repair as necessary.
Reconnect PF sensor.
Connect scan tool.
Key on, engine running.
Access EVAPPF PID.
Key off.

Where is the EVAP canister purge valve and the PF sensor located?

I'll have to dig further in either the manual or the haynes manual. Probably have an answer tomorrow.

Here's more of what I found. Damn pics don't want to cut-and-paste though. I'll see what else is on the service DVD.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Evaporative Emissions

Item Part Number Description
1 EVAP canister purge valve
2 Evaporative emission canister

The evaporative emission system consists of an evaporative emission canister and an EVAP canister purge valve. A combination of plastic pipes and rubber hoses connect the canister to the fuel tank and the EVAP canister purge valve to the intake manifold.

In addition, the evaporative emission system uses a canister vent solenoid and a fuel tank pressure sensor which are used during the engine management system on board diagnostic routines. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for further information.

When the EVAP canister purge valve is closed, the fuel tank is vented into the EVAP canister through the fuel vapor vent valves. The EVAP canister absorbs the fuel vapor and prevents the release of hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. When the EVAP canister purge valve is opened, the EVAP canister is exposed to the intake manifold vacuum and the fuel vapor deposits are drawn into the manifold where they mix with the incoming air/fuel charge.

The evaporative emission system is controlled by the powertrain control module according to calibrated data tables.
