I was watching a special on the special effects in The Matrix Reloaded and how they were "so life like". I was pretty disgusted. It looks totally fake to me. But the young people of today have grown up with digital effects and they don't know any better. I am 31 and grew up on REAL effects. The original Star Wars absolutely blew away audiences because of there was never any effects like that before. The story was lame and the acting was terrible, but those effects were out of this world. The newest Star Wars movies are TERRIBLE! Why? Because we've seen digital landscapes and creatures a hundred times better and the story is still boring! The Matrix Reloaded: the scene where the Agent is running down the freeway crushing cars looks terrible. The clothes are stiff as if he wasn't even moving. And digital effects are just the beginning. Take music; Digital instruments, digital recording equipment and digital media. I had a chance to play some Vinyl records for my 18 year old brother a while back and he couldn't believe his ears. Maybe the SACD or DVD Audio discs can come close acurately reproducing SOME of the sounds produced by an acoustic instument, but an excellent vinyl alubum and turntable will still blow them away. My father has an amazing analog set up you wouldn't believe. He has two AKAI reel to reel 4 track player/recorders (does anyone even know what I am talking about?), an 8-track player(Oh My God), two turntables (Technics and some swedish name), a Pioneer pre-amp and tuner (with tubes in it for gods sake) and four amplifiers. The amps are these metal boxes that look like something out of a 50's Flash Gordon episode with these huge tubes in them. He bought most of it in the Phillipines when he was stationed there during Vietnam. You may think you've heard Pink Floyd or The Beatles, Or even AC/DC, until he fires up this beast of a system, puts on th vinyl and cranks it up! You haven't heard Roger Daultrey scream on "Don't get fooled again" until you've heard it analog through ancient Aucoustic Research speakers with paper cones, silk tweeters and inch and half thick solid wood cabinets!
I am just remeniscing about when I was kid and the pictures before us were real and the music we listened to was too. Sorry if it sounds like a rant, but ya know what......WE ARE IN THE MATRIX! NOTHING IS REAL!
