with the warmer weather here, Ive noticed that the very front of my dash (where it joins the windshield) has started peeling back. I did a search about dash warp and most people were saying that it occured around the defrost vent and that is still fine on my car (its a 99 svt) but the very front is lifting up, so that when you look into the windshield from the outside of the car, you can see underneath the dashboard and the padding...is this what would be covered by the dashboard warp recall?? any help is appreciated, thanks.

I do believe that is Dash Warp covered by the recall- Stop by Ford when you have time and aske them about it. From all I have read, that is exactly what happens on the old dash.

my vent is constantly popping out. its actually embarrassing. is this a sign of the dash warping. i do plan on taking the car in to have it looked at. full warranty is still in effect so might as well take advantage of it.

I've had my '99 Contour's dash replaced once under warranty for the dash warping up at the windshield. Before I got the recall notice about the dash it had started to warp again.

When I took the car to the dealer, I was informed that the recall was only for the defroster vent and did not cover the warping near the windshield. It was inspected and determined that I only needed some sort of kit instead of an entire dash.

The kit was ordered, but I never had it put on due to the difficulty of getting an appointment with my dealer. Nonetheless, the dash has warped so bad now that it touches the windshield and makes noise over bumps and shifting gears. Sorry piece of $hit dash!

Also, my defroster vent pops up often and it has to be pushed back into the dash. Ford, Quality Is Job One?? Who are they kidding?

Have you tried going to a different Ford shop? The dash recall is for the entire dash to be replaced- based on how bad it is warped- Mine was replaced before I bought the car but the OASIS report stated that the dash was replaced- 3 inch curl. From what I have read on the CEG and Ford tech forums I have found that the service managers try as hard as possible to get out of warranty and recall work- the technicianss do not get paid full pay for that work and some managers feel "bad" for making them do it.

thanks for the help...does anyone know if its covered by the recall if its warped only by the windshield and not at all around the defrost vent?

Does your's look like this? They damn well better replace the whole dash.

Yes, I had warping ONLY at the winshield edge and not around the vents. They did the repair under warranty about 3 months ago which included a plastic part that secures the windshield edge and plastic parts that secures the vent edges (even though mine were fine). So far so good and as a bonus the dash was reinstalled more tightly (used to have a small amount of movement) - all dash rattles gone..

ok thanks, yeah thats exactly what mine looks like, except not quite that bad. good to hear that its going to be covered then, I';ll be taking a trip down to the ford dealer real soon then...thanls again everyone
