I thought I was going to fix the EGR Flow Insufficient (0401) CEL by taking off the TB and cleaning the EGR holes. Those were great instructions and were easy to follow. However, when I got back there, there were no holes in the UIM behind the TB. The fix was for a 96 model SE (guess I should have thought about that before hand) and all of the searches seemed to lead to it and the pictures. I have a 2000 SVT. I have a SHO K&N filter and the TH fix. Could the TH fix be giving me this problem? What other things should I tackle before throwing money at parts? Also, is there a better way to stop Moosing on a 2000 svt than the TH fix?

Thanks For YOu Help

You must have the only V6 Contour in the world w/o them then.

The holes are behind the TB gasket. If you didn't remove the gasket, then you won't see the holes.

I made the same mistake, so don't feel bad.

Also, make sure you have a new TB gasket before you start the project.

GeoPappas

Thanks for the tip. But I actually read your posting some time back. I expected to have to look for the holes pretty hard. The TB gasket came off with the TB (not stuck to it, just fell off). I did have another gasket ready to go. The new gasket did not exactly match the old one. It was perfectly round where the old one had some raised areas on the bottom. The UIM didn't even look the same as the pictures for the 96. The Grooves were in different places, only 1 on the right hand side. I thought I was crazy and had a mechanic friend of mine check it out also. There was nothing but solid metal where the egr holes were supposed to be. Is there a possibility that the UIM changed slightly for the 2000 year. I thought I read in the posts some time back that the UIM did change.

Thanks very much

The SVT and standard UIMs are a little different. For example, on the regular UIMs, the EGR channel runs toward the bottom of the TB inlet and 'feeds' 3 ports located on the bottom lip of the TB opening. From the pics I've seen posted, the SVT UIM appears to have the EGR channel running to the top of the manifold where there are 2 ports on the top lip of the TB opening. These 'ports' will completely clog up with carbon and will visually blend in with the surface of manifold. I didn't realize there were 3 on my SE until I started cleaning and knocked a chunk of packed carbon loose from one of the plugged ports.

A standard SE looks like this: (Thanks to Geopapas )

I took the TB off again yeasterday. The Two EGR holes for the SVT were on top exactly as stated. I feel kinda stupid for not seeing them in the first place. However, there was not much crud in either one. I made sure that they were clean and put the TB back on. Would my next step be the same repair methods as that of a normal Contour or are there different parts that I should try on the SVT first.

Thanks
