Last week I noticed that past 3k or so I didn't have any power and initially thought it was a problem with the IMRC. Over the week the problem started getting worse to the point that in every gear but first the car seemed to have no power. Then the car wouldn't go past 4k in first either. So to the dealer I go....
...One day later and Ford still can't figure out what the problem is although they've driven it and have confirmed the problem. They have said it's not the IMRC or the fuel pump and I'm at a loss as to what it could be. Appartently so are they. Any insight as to what could be the problem?

Ummm...TB needs cleaned? Ummmm...O2 sensor? Ummm...one of your valves may be stuck in the closed position? I dunno, no really I dunno sh!t about troubleshooting. But these are all things that have happened to cars of mine that acted in a similar manner. Did they hook it up to the diagnostic machine? You would think that something would come up.

DEaler can't find my problem either. I know mine is the fuel pump. They won't fix it (ESP wtty.) unless it has the problem in front of them.

Of all honsty is sounds like a fuel pump problem. Some come with a screen that gets cloged up causing loss of flow to your car...this is easy fixed by just removing it...unfortanitly fords fix is replacing the whole pump.

What does everyone think about the main cat? Granted it is an older model, well different all together, but I had a Miata brought in one time that had the same problems. Below 2000 the car ok, but get it above that and... well grandma would pass you while blowing her horn. Being young and since I did not have very much experience, my service manager let me battle it for about an hour. At that point he felt like I had done enough, plus I was at the parts counter getting prices together for plugs and wires.
Does the car sound muffled? Sort of like someone has put a pillow in your intake? If so, I would bet on it being the main cat. The main cat is not monitored, so it would not set a CEL IIRC.

Early pumps don't have the same screen that is a probleem on the later models, we have an L shaped sock that isn't / hasn't been as problematic.

IMRC, fuel pump and/or screens, or pre-cats.

MAF! Maybe crazy coming from a guy with a Zetec, but mine did the VERY same thing and it took replacing the MAF to get the power back. Quick check...pull the MAF off the car and look at the posts. If it is dirty looking, get some Chemtool B-12 and spray it. May be time to just replace it.
What can happen is that the MAF can get dirty enuff to make it get out of calibration and thus change the mixture...when mine went bad, twice, it did not CEL so, that is a thought.
