i think i have a bad electrical connection somewhere; the car doesnt realize that my driver door is open. for example, when i open the door, the dome light doesnt come on. if the keys are in the ignition, or the headlights, the warning bell doesnt sound - its like the door was never opened. anyone ever have this happen? any ideas? how hard would this be to fix?

You might what to check that black knob looking thing on the side of the door. When you press it down the light cuts off. Yours just might be stuck.

its probably the switch in the door jam. the fix couldn't be simpler. either try spraying some wd-40 into it and push it in and out a bunch of times, or just go buy a new one for cheap. i'm sure that's all your problem is.

This has happened to me off & on since I bought the car. Most people will just tell you to get the new switch since it costs next to nothing. I haven't bothered yet because sometimes I like to be able to have the keys in the ignition and the driver's door open w/o that god-aweful noise when I'm working on the car.

It is probably a dirty switch. Pull it out and have a look. The switch is located in one of the major water drain paths so it is subject to corrosion on the contacts. I have had good luck by cleaning the contacts with a small toothbrush sized wire brush and then slathering it with dielectric grease before reinstalling it.

If I remember correctly, it is held in place by a phillips head screw.
