Contour Enthusiasts Group Archives Forums General Troubleshooting A slowly dying water pump?

About 1/4th of the time when I start the car my water idiot light will come on and stay on for about 5 minutes and then turns off. The rest of the time it turns off normally. I've checked the fluids and everything seems good. Anyone get any ideas?

Mine does that too if I'm not on level ground. I have a steep driveway and if the car is parked on it rather than in the garage the light stays on for a few minutes after I drive away. You might need to clean the sensor as well. I keep the coolant level just above the full mark too.

well at least your water pump didnt shatter. I had my car taken in last week because the water pump fan (the fan that circulates the fluid) totally cracked into about a million piecs and wasn't working. I've never seen anything like it and the mechanics gave me the pump as a souveneir. Kinda funny tho, it happened the day i got it.

This was happening with mine also, and it was drving me nuts. Don't know if you tried this or not, but check http://www.contour.org/FAQ/FAQ.cgi?s=probs&display=coolant

I just filled it a little over the max fill mark on the resevoir and problem solved.
