His diagnosis of an open dropping resistor sounds like it is very likely correct.

The fan dropping resistor is located in the lower left corner (as viewed from the drivers seat) of the fan shroud.

Could'nt find a resitstor in the spot you said. The only thing we even came close to thinking might be it is at the pass side at top of fan shroud there is a plug in the line.the wires' runnning to the resistor and gr/w and gr/bl well we found these wires followed them and they run to this plug in the line which the same wires are on the other side of the plug in its like they just plug into themselves.I would descirbe it as a splice in the line but only the same wires run in as comming out.my dad checked it and the voltage that ran into the plub came out on the other side.IF we unplug it the high speed fan will not run either.Could this be the resistor.

No.

You will need to refer to 96 service documentation. I have 95 and 98 Service Cds and both indicate the resistor is as I previously stated.

It's pretty unlikely that yours is different, so look again where I said to.

I'm working from documentation here. I haven't got our 'Tour here to look at (wife drives it).

GN/BL at the plug you mention is the hi-speed feed to fans. Lo-speed feed GN/W goes to resistor and then from resistor to fans. Resistor best seen from below on v6, probably the same with Zetec.

hi,projectSHO89:

My A/C clutch just refused to kick in
when I switched the knob to A/C. I
finally found that the yellow R4(compressor
clutch relay) doesn't receive a '+' signal
when I turn on the A/C. If I bypass R4, the
clutch is engaged and A/C works fine.

I don't have a service manual for my
contour 95,GL,V6,ATX. Could you help me
to have a look in that manual and give
me some suggestion?

btw: recently recharged R134-a, so the
pressure inside should be OK.

Thanks!!

Okay steve I found it not what I was expecting it to look like.I use to seeing old type resistors.Boy howdy the book say you gotta completely unbolt the radiator along with oil cooler tube hoses everything so that you can take out fan shroud so you can remove resistor. All that to remove that maybe I work around all that.Well that for the help GUys I appreciate it alot.could'nt have found it without ya.
