He called me last night with more tales of the SC'ed 3L beast...

Bad news: Apparently, the car was building HP a little to quickly for the new heavy duty clutch and they couldn't get it to hold. It would break free at about 4,000-4,500 RPMs, then the engine would bounce off of the rev limiter a few times before he could let off. No apparent damage and everything else seems to be functioning properly.

Good news: Ford Chips guys will be programming the car at the Ford 100 Years celebration after Rick gets a chance to either break in the new clutch a little better, or replace it with another new one. More good news is that the car was making around 240+ HP and I don't remember the TQ when the clutch let go at those low RPMs IIRC from what Rick said. Should have no problem reaching his goals of 300+ at the wheels with the intercooler in place and a nice sticky clutch.

I've got pics and video of all of the runs. I'll try to get them edited and compressed tonight. I'm leaving it up to Rick on if he wants them up or not, as I don't have a place to host them.

True, it seems the clutch just wouldn't grip at anything past 4.5K, though like you said, the engine held up great as it was bounced off the rev-limiter a few times.

I thought he was making 240+ TQ when the clutch was letting go, though I could be wrong.

It scared the living hell out of me the first time the clutch let go. I was thinking that F1 cars don't climb up the rev range that fast, so either Rick has suspended certain laws of physics here or something was slightly amiss!

I had to leave a touch early for a dinner, so I didn't get to really go over the dyno slips. I'm sure someone got a good glance at them, though...

That makes sense I make 205HP and 225TQ at 4900 rpm.

I don't want to say too much more. It's Ricks baby. I can tell you that all of us KC guys were very worried on the first run like Rick. You could see the tension in the air!!!

RICK Congrats and seeing the beast run! It was great seeing ya again. We will catch you later this summer up there.

I thought the same thing. It was like watching a 900hp Supra dyno. He should definately make 300fwhp+ once the clutch gets sorted out.

I forgot to add that I think Rick's motor will hold up fine because at 4800rpms, the clutch gave out and the motor ended up tapping the rev-limiter under no load. They did five pulls with the same outcome. As most gearheads know, revving an engine to redline under no load is very hard on the motor. Seeing that his motor did fine, I think it will definately hold up to running under full load.

One of the other Maxima guys that was with me (another Dave, big guy) kept saying Rick's car was going lean. I'd have to disagree because Rick's car only went lean when the clutch slipped. This is pretty normal because the motor was under load from 2000-4800rpms therefore the ECU could adjust at a quick enough pace. Then when the clutch slipped the motor pretty much went from 4800rpms to 7000rpms in about 1 second. No ECU can adjust fuel ratios that quick therefore his motor would go a bit lean. I don't Rick has much to worry about.

Even me, a guy from the Darkside, was hopping the best for that beastly CSVT.

BTW who's the taller guy that hangs out with Robbie? I forgot to catch his name.
