Is this a common problem with high mileage Zetecs? Has anyone else had this happen?

I am not sure but I would seem to think so when i changed the timing belt on m car at 104k the tensioner was worn down and had two cracks, 180 degrees apart from the center almost to the outside since it is plastic it can get brittle with age and other stuff like that

new belt, three pullies, tension spring, serpentine belt was around $300
we did the work ourselves. it wasn't to bad if you have a good set of basic tools and know-how. The Ford service manual was very helpful also.
the spring was used to tension the tensoner pully but it doesn't stay on the car

mine broke as well, into 3 different pieces. I got the tensioner and spring w/ pin for under $90 from my local ford dealer. installing the new one seems easy(I'm still waiting on the spring) Pick up the Haynes manuel for some help.

I had mine done at a shop cause i figured if that went i should have everything checked on and replaced if needed. I can't remember what all was done but after a complete tune-up and all the parts replaced it was around $300.

the s belt was just changed. so thats done. so i'll need new pulleys too? a new timing belt wont be enough? my mechanic said the job would run about $300. just trying to see if i can do it myself w/ a new timing belt.
