I've had this problem for a while now and took it back to Ford to get fixed, this will be the third time I take it back. What could the problem be? I checked the FAQ and gave them the print out of how to fix it but that wasn't it. What else could it be? It idles at about 1 1/2 or 2 on the average, but not always and at other times it fluxuates arout .5 or .6 but is not steady, kind of like I was tapping the gas. Could this be a CPU problem?? Please help!

first guess is idle air bypass valve, second guess is a bad/dirty MAF sensor. i'd say its probably the first choice though.

the idle air bypass valve is bad on my car, just haven't replaced it yet. its only a $35 part and not to diff. to replace.

symptom would be as you describe. mine doesn't do it all the time, only usually after driving at a steady rpm for a good amount of time.
