I threaded the bolts that hold the cover in place through the washers, so they can't come loose, as long as the bolts are in place.

sweet thanks alot. i'm going to do that

i took the upper timing belt cover off and my belt looks fine.

Tensioner is located right under the cam gears.

I've had mine off for a year and I live in the dirtiest environment you could find. No problems here

I suspect the average owner is more likely to have trouble with idlers than with the tensioner. The problem with the idlers is that their diameter is small so they have to spin really fast, so the bearing wears out. They're located down hear the crank pulley.

Ive been down dirt roads at 65 today i was just drove through many spots that had about a foot of water and the other day i was trenchal downpowers with 60 mph head wind. Still no problems. Thats about as extreme as you going get in driving conditions. I think the cover os there mainly to keep you from touching it with your hand while its running you know like the "caution do not touch moving fan blade" thing.

The same spot as whos. Not mine. You can see the gears on yours on both sides of the belt. Mine was actually hanging over the side a bit.
