Would an 02 Cougar 2.5L w/AC fit a similarly equipped 99 Mystique? I was talking to another CEG'r about buying a used one from him, and he suggested they may not be the same.
I can't see there being a difference between a Duratec made in 99 and 02? They should be the same 140A alternator?

Two things:
1) OMG, Lardy posted to the forums!
2) If I had read this earlier today, I could check the applications at NAPA to see if they sell the same Alt to both vehicles. Not working tomorrow, closed Sunday - I'll check Monday.
I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be the same, personally.

Doesn't NAPA (and others) have parts lookup on-line?
You can check now.

Hey, I have 129 posts. Thank you very much. I've been a busy lad posting away here.
I checked at the stealership, they said the part numbers were slightly different so they couldn't gaurentee they were the same alt.
I'd appreciate it if you could look into it for me.
Lardy.

The problem is that the 2002 Cougar is too new. Most of its parts aren't listed online yet. Since they should all be under warranty nearly nobody is buying them aftermarket yet.

Wasn't listed in the computers, but our print catalogue for a non-NAPA brand had it. Shows Duratec Cougars built after Jan 2001 having a 105 Amp alternator, as opposed to the 130 Amp guy the rest of us here have. That explains the part number difference Ford showed.
As far as the pics, it *looks* like they are physically the same, but the pics are from different angles and I can't tell completely. I won't swear they install interchangably, and I have no idea what the ramifications are of installing a 130 Amp alternator where a 105 Amp one was originally used.
