I have a leak underneath my power steering pump and i'm sure other duratecs have this problem. The weird thing is that it does not reach the group. Do I have a bad gasket or the pump itself is bad?? I also have the weird loud noise coming from it also. No it's not moosing. How much is the pump and gasket itself??

I posted and many others have posted this problem before. I have two V-6 CONTOURS with the same problem,I decided to pull the pumps and replace both DMDs at the same time. IT will take some time to do the work, but it can be fun.
If you see an oil stain on the front cover below the PS pump in the Vee of the block I think it is from a leaking front timming cover gasket. I have this problem also and have had the pump out and mine isn't leaking. I even put some dye in the PS fluid and looked at the area with a black light. Mine leak is engine oil, its probably one of the areas on the block/timming cover interface that is supposed to have a bead of RTV added at one of several areas. Mine leak is small also but does accumulate along the oil pan and you might smell it through the vent inside the car.
I was losing P/S fluid and getting a loud moosing sound whenever I turned the wheel. I thought I had burst a hose or something when a 'helpful' mech 'topped-off' my P/S resevior...
I ended up being a lose hose to pipe connection down by the catalytic converter (found it when replacing cat). Get under there and look for where the leak is coming from exactly (lots of clearish oil around).
I fixed my leak with a couple of twists of a wrench and a refill on the P/S... No probs since.
Good luck.
