I did a search and kinda have an idea what's wrong, but lemme explain want's happening.

In the past couple of weeks my A/C fan has been acting strange. It started with the airflow coming out of the defroster for the first 30 seconds or so after I started the car. After that, it'd go to whatever I had it set for. Since then, I've noticed that it starts switching to the defroster under high-engine-load situations (I'd assume the same situations when manifold vacuum was low). Under 55-60mph, it operates properly 95% of the time. At interstate speeds, it only works properly when I let off the gas for a few seconds. I checked both of the lines going to the vacuum actuator under the dash...they're both connected, and seem to have good vacuum. Would replacing that actuator fix it? And could this be related to my horrible case of dash warp?

Your fan is not acting abnormally.

You likely have a vacuum leak in the plumbing for the A/C vacuum motors. A vacuum guage is your best bet if you are unable to locate the source of the leak by ear.

So actually it's the heater vacuum control system acting up, rather than the blower fan.
As you've already determined loss of vacuum causes system to default to defrost vents. Suggest you check vacuum reservoir tank and associated check valve and hoses, located under dash, pass side next to heater blower resistors.

Yeah...the word "fan" just appeared in the topic...it's the vacuum system that's acting up. I'll go check that reservoir...
