After all the searching on the board I found everyone thought that you couldn't just buy the gear. Well after doing a little more research into this myself I think I have found that you CAN buy just the gear assembly. All of the ford parts catalogs online show a piece called the "Sunroof Gear Assembly" and it lists for $16. Am I crazy? Or is this not what I think it is. I'm going to go to the Ford dealer tomorrow morning and try and order one in.

Qbert, why didn't you post a link to that part number? Whats the story here, is the gear available or not? I spent half an hour at ford looking up part #'s on their computer and you couldn't buy the gear separately. I even called Webasto who makes the motor unit and they said that gear is not available by itself, you have to purchase the whole unit.
I am about to buy a whole new sunroof motor assembly, but is there some kind of spray or coating I can buy to use on the plastic gear to strengthen it and protect it from heat and wear so this doesn't happen again??? I know somebody out there has found a solution to this problem, so please help us all out.
