Has anyone else had problems with the Yokohama AVS ES100?? Mine are 225/50/15's, and I purchased them about a month ago. They are the loudest and most obnoxious sounding tires I've ever purchased. The interior resonance/drone is so bad that normal conversation is next to impossible, and the radio volume must be turned up over half way just to hear it. The resonance is transmitted through the steering wheel column and the brake/throttle/clutch pedals. I don't have a serious vibration, just a highly aggravating drone at all speeds and rpm's.

At first I thought a belt in one of the tires had broken, but the tire dealer did not find a problem when inspected this evening. The dealer re-balanced and rotated all four tires, but this did nothing for the drone.

When I took the car back the second time tonight, the dealer could only figure the 225/50 size was too large for the 15" stock wheel, and suggested reverting to the 205/60/15 size tire. Could I be having suspension problems that are aggravating the problem, thereby resulting in the drone/interior resonance?????

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thanx!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they are directional tires are they installed correctly. Look at the arrow on the side of the tire.

No problems with mine, in fact they're much quieter than the Dunlop 8000's that were on there before.

Ditto...compared to the stock BFG KDW's with similar miles, these are total stealth!! Your tire dealer might be onto something...what is the width of the 15" rims ?? TireRack recommends a rim width of 6"-8".

I have the 205/60/15 and no problems. I'll bet its the oversize causing the problem.

Anybody find a cure to the road noise on the AVS ES100?

Here are the facts:
Total miles on tires: ~12,000
Rotation: 4,000 & 8,000 miles
Size: 225 width on OEM '99 SVT wheels
Pressure: Have tried 35-46 psi
Direction: Yes, they are mounted correctly
Alignment: Checked at NTB, ok per Ford Spec,
RH and LH front off by only .03 deg
Balance: Balance redone at 4,000mi
Wear: Measured with plenty left, wear even

I had these tires put on as as replacement for OEM KDWs. Intitially I was very happy with road noise (the description of "stealth" is appropriate). Recently replaced tie rod end (hence the alignment) about 2500mi ago. Last 1000 or so miles has seen an exponential increase in road noise. It gotten unbarable, just like Nathan described above. For example, an empty pop can in the driver's side cupholder resonates so much I can't hear the radio at normal listening levels. This sound is terrible! I have only 6 months on these tires and I got over 3 years out of my KDWs--so I don't want to replace them. Anybody have any ideas? I thinking I should complain to Yokohama or Discount tire--I would rather have my worn KDWs back at this point...

I dunno, but mine are quiet.
Maybe your wheel bearing(s) need some grease.

Not trying to be a dick or anything, but when you buy "performance" tires at the cheap price of the ES100s, something's gotta give...and as you're seeing...its development $$$. Tires that are researched and developed properly to address these concerns for the lifetime of the tire cost $$$...and adds $$$ to the cost of the tire.

My $.02
