Went over there last weekend to try to help out, but no one was there working. No even the boyfriend's brother who lives out back. Oh well, took some pictures anyways. Just got em off the camera now...

My wife's parents lost their house to fire about 10 years ago . It's a tough thing to go through . Luckily it wasn't her grandfather's old farmhouse that burned (~200 yr.old house = irreplacable) , it was closeby on the same bit of property (30+ acres in all) . They lost almost everything including family heirlooms . Apart from a few antiques & tidbits , it was a total loss . Also lost in the fire was Sparky , her mom's dog and a couple housecats . Luckily noone else was home at the time . One quasi-good thing did , however , come out of it . A farmcat had kittens in the burned-out basement very soon after the fire , one of which came home with the wife & I . He's a great cat ... named Smokey , because that's how he smelled when we brought him home .

One ironic thing about their housefire is that the wife & I heard the firetrucks going out of town (her mom & dad lived in BFE) , and tried to follow them in our car just to see what was up , but by the time we got going , we couldn't find them . We eventually gave up . We smelled her parents house burning down , as strange as that may sound . Thinking back on it , I'm GLAD we couldn't figure out which road they went down . Could you imagine watching as your old house burned down ?!?! The wife would've been more devistated .

Good luck to your family as they sift through their life's ashes & start over again . It's a tough road to travel , especially without insurance .

The house that a coworker lives in caught fire last fall (he's in the basement apartment) in the middle of the night. The sirens of the firetrucks woke me up, I wondered what dummy was causing trouble in the middle of the night.. One of the girls upstairs had a space heater too close to her curtains. He said he was out in the street cursing up a storm at the stupid girl, as he watched smoke pour out of the top floor. Luckily there wasn't much damage outside of the room where the fire was. Some smoke damage up there and water damage on the 1st floor and basement.

Cousin's boyfriend was at work not too far from the house. One of his coworkers came in and said "Dude, I think your house is on fire, you should go over there!" I don't think he got there as the place was burning, but the firefighters were still there.

My Uncle is talking about doing some small changes to the layout of the house. Changing the stairs so they come straight down instead of the small curve you can see in one of the pictures. Making the bathroom bigger, etc. Guess now is as good a time as any...

Looks like some good progress there rebuilding. That's gotta be a collosal amount of work. Its a good thing the outer walls were made of cinder block, or that house would not be rebuildable.

I thought fire (though an intense one) made that type of masonry brittle?

Continued best of luck with the construction...
