For my 95GL V6, it's P195/65R14

At Wal-Mart, there is only one choice:
-- Douglas 40,000 miles warranty
$43x2+$20(labor)+$9(tax)=$115

At Sears Auto center, the cheapest one is:
-- Cooper 40,000 miles warranty
$33x2+$20(labor)+$11(disposal)+$9(tax)=$106

Does the quality of these two tires have
some difference?
It seems Cooper is cheaper than Douglas,
but they provide the same mileage warranty.

Which tire do you feel better?

Thanks for your opinion.

never heard of Douglas, but I have heard of Cooper so I would go w/ them.

You might try the Tires and Wheels section if you haven't already. Also, I wouldn't personally buy from either place or either tire since you can usually find better tires and deals from Tirerack.com.

I've seen the Douglas tires you mentioned at a Super Wal-Mart here in Maine.
Tirerack has some good prices for good brands but I'm leaning toward the local Sears.
Here they carry a Guardsman 40 T/E, 40,000 mile tire they tell me is made by Cooper. Probably the one you mentioned. Here their price is $139.00 for 4 tires plus installation and the usual charges, bringing the total to $206.00. I've been tempted to put some 15" alloys on the car, but will stick to the T/E's in 195/65R14 for now.

Good luck.

hi,

Thanks for your suggestion.

I just checked tirerack.com, there are
30 choices there for 195/65R14.

But price is also high plus shipping and
other charges.

So, I prefer local stores.

You might try looking at the installers listed on tirerack. If you do not want to deal with mail ordering the tires you might give some of the places listed there a call and see what they have. I did not end up using them yet, but I found that one of the tirerack listed installers had really good deals on tires in their local store.

I've got the Douglas gt-h (Walmart) tires and am getting great wear out of them. They've taken some pretty good pot hole licks over the winter with no tire damage. They're not real sticky though, especially in the rain. A good cheap tire IMO, just don't plan on any races with them.

jeffyscott made a very good suggestion. many of the installers are tire dealers in their own right, but aren't supposed to make any offers to tirerack customers that are coming in just for installs. the installer i've got told me some of the prices he can get for me, but mentioned he's not allowed to sell them to me because of his deal w/ the tire rack. if you just do a search on the tire rack website for nearby installers, you'll probably find a few other places to comparison shop that are also local.

I just put 4 tires on at Wal-Mart they sugested what you said and i refused as they are not real good tires, ok if you dont drive too hard or fast
I did some checking and found that 185-70r14 is basically equall overall and doesn't affect ride height or handling or speedo. Went with 4 Goodyear Viva Touring tires (70,000 or 80,000 mile?) 185-70r14 they are about $320.00 complete with install and road hazard warranty for the set of 4. they are really good but could be slightly better in heavy rain. smoother ride it seems than the old 195-65r14 that were on my 1996 GL V6 ATX.
