I am looking for a way to maybe plug my laptop computer into the OBD-II system so I can moniter and get real-time readings. I am very ignorant when it comes to this part. Maybe I don't even need to use my computer and there is something already available.

Thanks for any insight.

Thanks. Does anyone have any experience using this set up that can vouch for it?

This software is down right a must have. You can find out a lot of things w/ it, from pulling codes to all the other sensor read outs and information about the car. The newer version also has a self diagnostics test that takes over control of the car and checks out all the components. Really cool.

Ok, this may be a little confusing, but just follow me here I got the scanner from Alex (the link Stolon posted above). It worked great until it stopped working completely. I'm fairly positive the unit is bad since I've been troubleshooting it with help from Alex and fellow CEG'ers. If I can't get it working on my own, Alex said I can ship it back to him and he'll test it. It has a two year warranty, so if its bad Alex will replace it.

So, what I'm trying to say is that you can buy with confidence from Mr. Peper. He's there to help and will stand behind his product. Even with the problems I've had I would recommend his scanners and software without hesitation.

Yes, this is true. I've even had to reload it onto a diff computer when this one died and then lost my registration code and when i contacted alex, he had it on file and e-mailed it right to me, and this was probably almost 2 years ago that i purchaced the scan tool. Great service.

Just out of curiosty, are you guys buying just the Ford version or do you think it makes sense to buy the "tripple" package for all cars?

I've got both the ford format or pwm or what ever it is called and the iso so i can hook it up to the camry as well. if you've got more than just a ford w/ obd 2 than the combos might be a nice thing to have.

I got the three in one Tricom tool. I figured that way I can scan codes for my friends and family, too.

I forget what I paid (I used the student discount) but I think the non-discount for the Tricom w/ software was around $180-$190. At $40 a pop for the Ford dealer to read codes it'll pay itself off eventually, not to mention the boatload of other features.
